The West Bengal government is going to launch the WB Chaa Sundari Scheme soon. Under this scheme, people connected with the tea industry will be ensured the availability of housing by the state government. The state Labor Minister Moloy Ghatak had announced on September 17, 2020 that the West Bengal Chaa Sundari Scheme was started. Under this scheme, the state government will ensure the availability of housing for 792 families of tea workers. Along with this, many other announcements have also been made by the Ministry of Labor, including distribution of ration to the workers at concessional rates. The Chaa Sundari Scheme has been launched keeping in mind the budget for the financial year 2020-21.

In February 2020, the WB Chaa Sundari Scheme has been launched by the West Bengal government to ensure the availability of their own homes to tea workers. Through this scheme Labor Department will allocate funds to tea workers in the state to construct their own housing. Rs 500 crore was allocated for the WB Cha Sundari Yojana. Keeping in mind the upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal, the development work is being preferred by the state government. Many workers associated with the tea industry do not have their own housing. Keeping this in mind, the State Government has started the Chaa Sundari Housing Scheme with the objective of providing housing to the workers’ housing.

Tea wage increase by TMC government
A major change in the wages of tea workers has been noted by the Minister in the Government of West Bengal after 2011. Earlier, tea workers were given 67 daily wages, which will now be increased to Rs 76. All workers will be given revised salary soon. TMC minister said BJP is screaming for minimum wages, but no such wages have been fixed so far in Assam where BJP is in power. Mamta Banerjee is heading the government in West Bengal. Tea is doing a lot of work for the betterment of the workers. If the Trinamool does not remain in power in the WB state, the tea estate situation will worsen.

Eligibility Criteria
